In a small Dutch village, an artist was born who did not realize the value of his time, but his creations set the stage for an artistic legend that changed the concept of beauty in the world. It is Vincent van Gogh, the troubled artist who sold one painting in his lifetime, to sell his paintings today for millions of dollars.
Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in Grote Zendert, Netherlands. He was a sad and troubled child, whose relationship with the art world began with his work in the art trade with his uncle. But his rebellious spirit led him on a self-seeking journey, during which he experimented as a teacher in England, and then as a preacher among miners in Belgium.
Technical Transformation
In 1880, Van Gogh decided to devote himself to art, moving from the Netherlands to Paris in 1886, where he discovered bright colors and was influenced by the Impressionist school. This period marked a turning point in his style, as he abandoned the dark colors that characterized his Dutch paintings.

Conflict with disease
Van Gogh experienced a bitter struggle with mental illness and, in a fit of madness, severed part of his left ear. He entered the San Remy mental asylum, where he produced some of his greatest paintings despite his suffering.
The tragic end.
On July 27, 1890, Van Gogh shot himself in a wheat field, and died two days later. He was only 37. At his funeral, his brother Theo said, "He had no enemy but himself."
Van Gogh sold only one painting in his lifetime ("The Red Field"), while his Portrait of Dr. Gachet sold in 1990 for $82.5 million. Today, his paintings adorn the museums of the world, and tell the story of that genius who saw beauty where no one saw it.

Van Gogh stands witness that genius may appear in the most troubled of souls, and that true art can be born out of suffering. His body is gone, but his spirit lives on in every brush touch, and in every color it illuminates the path of modern art.
