Exports of prefabricated clothing in Egypt continue to register significant growth during 2026, reaching some $862 million during the first quarter of the year, compared with $787 million during the same period of 2025, bringing about 10 per cent growth, reflecting the continued export momentum of the sector despite global challenges.
Improved domestic production
The Prefabricated Petroleum Export Board said that this performance did not come from a vacuum, but reflected a significant improvement in the competitiveness of domestic production, as well as the continued strong demand from foreign markets for Egyptian products.
The Prefabricated Petroleum Export Board noted the commitment of factories to global quality standards and their increasing integration into international supply chains.
The United States is the largest importer of ready clothes.
At the major market level, the United States continued to strengthen its position as one of the largest importers of Egyptian prefabricated clothing, with exports of some $329 million during the first quarter of 2026, compared to $289 million during the same period last year, with a growth of 14 per cent.
Higher exports in Europe $379 million
Conversely, exports to Europe have achieved more robust performance, rising to $379 million, compared with some $313 million, recorded growth of 21 per cent, reflecting the growing European dependence on the Egyptian product in the global redistribution of production chains.
Clothing sector is the most important export sector in Egypt
The Export Board of Ready Clothings explained that these indicators confirm that the ready-made garment sector continues to establish itself as one of Egypt ' s most prominent export sectors, benefiting from improved quality and increased international dependence on production lines outside Asia, opening the way for further expansion in the coming period, particularly with continued emphasis on major markets and domestic industrial deepening.
