Spain participates in two films at the 18th Panorama of European Film

Dr. Nasser Hussein

From 26 November to 7 December, a film programme will take place in Egypt within the framework of the 18th Panorama of European Film, where the most prominent European films will be screened, an initiative that promotes cultural exchange between Egypt and Europe, and provides an opportunity for Egyptian audiences to discover the rich diversity of European visions and perspectives that enrich the global cultural scene, and open doors to new worlds and realities of cinematic styles from the European continent.
In the context of the festival, two films from Spain will be screened: the Jury Prize-winning film "Sarat" 2025 by Oliver Lax – it will be screened on November 29 at 7 pm at Zawiya Cinema and on December 6 at 7 pm at Zamalek Cinema, and the film "City of No Sleep", directed by Guillermo Galloie, which will be screened on November 27 and December 3 at 7 pm at Zawiya Cinema.

"Sarat" tells the story of a man and his son, who arrive at a loud electronic concert (Raf) in a remote place in Morocco. They search for Mar, their daughter and sister, who disappeared months ago at one of those never-ending parties. They repeatedly distribute her image amid electronic music concerts and a kind of freedom unfamiliar to them. They meet a group of partygoers and decide to follow them to a final party in the desert, hoping to find the missing young woman.
The film tells the life of Tony, a 15-year-old Roma boy living in Europe’s largest illegal settlement, on the outskirts of Madrid. Proud to belong to a family of scrap collectors, he follows his grandfather everywhere. The demolitions approach the plot of land they inhabit, and his grandfather refuses to leave, whatever the cost. On dark, powerless nights, as his childhood legends gain life, Tony must choose: face a mysterious future, or cling to a fading world.
