El Gouna Film Festival collaborates with Netflix to showcase Frankenstein

El Gouna Film Festival has announced an unprecedented partnership with Netflix to present Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming feature film "Frankenstein" to the eighth edition of the festival, which will take place from October 16 to 24, 2025.

This collaboration marks a milestone in the festival’s journey, as it is the first official collaboration with one of the world’s leading companies in the field of entertainment broadcasting services to screen a feature film within the festival’s program, reflecting El Gouna’s enduring commitment to bringing high-quality, high-impact international cinema to audiences in the Arab region.

Frankenstein arrives in El Gouna after his world premiere, which resonated widely at the Venice Film Festival (Biennale), where he garnered great critical acclaim, and was crowned with a storm of applause following his release. In this version, Guillermo del Toro offers a captivating visual treatment of Mary Shelley's timeless novel, starring Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, and Jacob Elorde as the Freak, to rekindle the tragedy of creationism and ostracism in an epic in which awe intersects with meditation.

This collaboration reflects the development of the partnership between El Gouna Film Festival and Netflix, which is presented this year through the CineGouna Professional Workshop "Ever After". The three-day Ever After: Developing a Series is dedicated to screenwriters, professional producers and directors, as well as being the first time this partnership has been extended to include an official screening of a feature-length film with a global presence. The El Gouna Film Festival is proud to break this new path with Netflix, as the Frankenstein film of Guillermo del Toro is a living example of high-end and awaited cinema, and securing its screening at the El Gouna Festival is a real gain for the festival’s audience.

El Gouna is the only film to premiere in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, as well as being one of the limited film screenings globally ahead of its release on Netflix on November 7.

The Film Festival is one of the leading festivals in the Middle East and North Africa region, aimed at creating better communication among cultures through cinemas and bringing filmmakers from the region with their international counterparts in order to promote a spirit of cooperation and cultural exchange. The Festival is committed to the discovery of new cinemas and is keen to act as a catalyst for the development of cinema in the Arab world, particularly through its own industry arm.
