The Assistant Secretary of American Trade in Industry and Analysis, Stephen Haynes, announced a major achievement in the bilateral trade route between the two countries: the official acceptance by the Egyptian Government of the American Federal Automobile Safety Standards, opening Egyptian markets to cars and parts of imported American cars; and the Chargé d ' affaires of the United States Ambassador Robert Silverman; the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr. Mohamed Farid; the Minister of Industry, Khalid Hashem, and the Director General of Motors, Egypt, Rohan Fernán Fernán Fernández, announced the City of the City.
Assistant Minister Haynes said during the announcement: I am glad that Egypt has opened a clear track to significantly increase exports of United States cars and spare parts to Egypt, based on more than $256 million of United States car goods exported to Egypt last year.
These changes would also give Egyptian consumers greater access to safe, reliable and high-quality American vehicles and spare parts and would help launch economic opportunities in both countries.
For his part, Rohan Fernández, President and next Director-General of General Motors Egypt and Africa, said: " For General Motors, this is based on a clear and practical market access in Egypt -- a step that has already enabled Cadillac to return in May. " It transforms regulatory progress into tangible business outcomes and greater options for Egyptian consumers. This will build confidence, enhance market predictability, and support fair competition among global automobiles, as well as strengthen Egypt ' s position as a powerful market for cars.
Integration of safety standards
The integration of American safety standards is to act as a powerful catalyst for the Egyptian economy, by simplifying procedures for importing American cars and components, amended regulations will enhance market competitiveness and reduce costs to consumers, and between Egypt and the United States will support both United States and Egyptian automobiles (e.g. General Motors) and Egyptian companies and consumers. Today ' s declaration is a concrete example of how economic partnership between the United States and Egypt contributes to the prosperity of the United States.
