When we read the Koran, we find that it sometimes uses the expression " fear of God " , and in other places, it may appear that the two words do the same, but the meditation reveals that the difference between them is not only linguistic, but rather a difference in the nature of the human feeling itself: fear and fear are different situations, although they sometimes meet in one heart.
Fear is the feeling created when a man is threatened, dangerous or unaccounted for, and it is not always fear of direct pain, but fear of something that the mind cannot determine or expect to end. Human beings are therefore often more afraid of the unknown than the pain itself; the pain that can be measured or understood becomes somewhat probable; what cannot be conceived or how far it is turns into a real source of terror.
Hence, we understand the nature of the fear of the day of action in the Koran. The description here is not the same fire, but for an unknown day, the most insensitive, the human being does not know how his moments are going through or what he expects.
People don't fear the sea just because it's possible to drown, but because the sea deep down carries something that is not fully understandable.
From this point on, the real difference between fear and fear begins: fear may arise from anticipation of damage, fear arises from perception, so the fear in the Koran is linked to God more than anything, because human beings fear not only God for punishment, but because of his understanding of a greatness that the mind cannot understand.
فالإنسان قد يخاف النار لأنها تؤلم، لكنه يخشى الله لأنه يدرك الجلال والقدرة والعلم المطلق. والخوف قد يدفع الإنسان إلى الهروب، أما الخشية فتدفعه إلى المراقبة الداخلية والانضباط حتى في غياب أي رقيب. ولهذا قد يخاف الإنسان من العقوبة، لكنه إذا وصل إلى مرتبة الخشية أصبح أكثر وعيًا بنفسه وأكثر إدراكًا لمسؤوليته.
ومع ذلك فالقرآن استخدم التعبيرين مع الله، لأن الإنسان في الحقيقة يعيش الحالتين معًا. فهو يخاف من الحساب والمصير وأهوال اليوم الآخر، ويخشى الله لعظمته وهيبته واتساع قدرته. فالخوف هنا مرتبط بالمصير المجهول، بينما الخشية مرتبطة بمعرفة من بيده هذا المصير.
إن الفرق بين الخوف والخشية هو الفرق بين من يرتعب من الألم، ومن يقف مبهورًا أمام عظمة لا يستطيع فهمها بالكامل. ولذلك قد يبتعد الإنسان عما يخافه، لكنه يظل يحمل في داخله خشية مما أدرك اتساعه وهيبته، حتى لو لم يره بعينيه.
