From New York. Aamir wrote. Politics... mirages of hearts and minds.

In the world of politics, nothing is certain. What we hear or read in the news, and what we report in hearings, are often contradictory accounts, incomplete testimonies, or images that have been coloured and directed. Few have been eyewitnesses to events, and few have been able to convey them with complete honesty.

Politics is a mirage, but it is a mirage capable of capturing minds and hearts. What I really see as my friend may see as void, and what I describe as justice may be called injustice by others. The irony is that neither was present at the event, nor touched the truth by his hand, but they cling to their positions as if they were absolute certainty.

We have become prisoners of what is portrayed to us, picking out only what we hear, and closing our ears to the rest of the sounds. Herein lies the danger: minds turn into trumpets, and hearts into fronts of conflict. The question is lost, doubt vanishes, and that simple moment when we say from our depths: God knows.

Take a vivid example from our reality: some saw Dr. Mohamed Morsi as a traitor and a client, while others saw him as a struggling and martyred believer. In contrast, some saw President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as the savior of the country, while others saw him as a tyrant and oppressor. Ironically, most of these sentences were built on what was quoted and heard, not on what was seen with absolute certainty.

But the deeper truth is that both — Morsi Sisi — He took over the presidency of Egypt, and both should be reminded of respect for the office, no matter how different we are in evaluating their actions. We are not judges of history, nor witnesses to its mysteries, but hearers and transporters.

So, we have to review ourselves: what the eye does not see for sure, only God knows. Even what the eye has seen may not be the whole truth, as the event has faces and angles beyond what we realize. Those who disagree with us do not necessarily mean that we are right and he is wrong; perhaps we and he together touch only part of the picture.

Let us put in our hearts these words: I may be wrong, and God knows best. Then we will find tranquility, break free from the prison of intolerance, and come closer to our humanity.

Man — Any human. — He is the greatest of God’s creations, and it is not fitting for us to drop this dignity as a dehumanization, no matter how different we may be from Him.
