Sales in Egypt in July were down 4.9% month-on-month, with sales totaling 15.6 thousand units, compared to 16.4 thousand units in June, according to data from the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).
This decline comes after five months of continuous rise, however, July remains the second highest month of sales since June 2022.
Decrease in truck sales
The decline this month was driven by a 4.8% drop in passenger car sales to 12.1 thousand units, as well as a 12.1% drop in truck sales to 2.4 thousand units. By contrast, bus sales rose 14.3 percent to 1.1 thousand units.
Despite this monthly decline, the market performance remains strong in the annual framework, with overall sales up 36.9% from the same period last year.
Passenger car sales rose 23.7%, while buses recorded a staggering 76.2% increase, and trucks recorded an extraordinary 139.1% increase.
Increase in sales
Last year saw a 13.2% year-on-year increase in sales, with total sales of 102.2 units, indicating a partial recovery from a difficult period as a result of the foreign exchange crisis that led to supply shortages and higher prices.
It should be noted that the data of the Automotive Market Information Board (AMIC) is based on the reports of the board’s member distributors, who represent a large share of the market. However, these data may not reflect the full picture of all sector activities.
