The Egyptian Medicine Authority begins to implement the pharmaceutical tracking system next February 2026, starting with imported medicines, with the aim of this new system to strengthen governance within the medicine market and ensure the safety of the supply chain.
According to the reports of the Egyptian medicine agency, the application of the drug tracking system includes every drug pack in Egypt and the system relies on the granting of every single packaging of a unique serial code, which is recorded electronically within a central platform, allowing for the movement of the package to be traced from production to the pharmacy and patient.
In its report, the Medicine Authority stated that drug tracking was aimed at combating drug fraud and smuggling while improving the efficiency of supply chain control, as well as the possibility of rapid intervention in the case of withdrawal of operations or management of pharmaceutical crises, as well as ensuring the quality of the medicine in the market and greater transparency in the handling of medicines with full control.
The Medicine Authority reported on the steps taken to implement the pharmaceutical tracking system, where phase I included first-imported medicines, as its systems were in line with global standards, noting that it had agreed with one of the Pharmaceutical Comptrollers to facilitate their integration into the system and had obtained a significant discount on the cost of codes for warehouses and warehouses, as part of stimulating the rapid application of the system.
With regard to the long-term implementation plan, the application of the system by medicine system would be phased and could extend for 3 to 5 years to cover all pharmaceutical groups and all medicines in the Egyptian market.
On the role of the application of pharmaceutical tracking in market control, Dr. Yassin Rajai, Assistant Chief of the Medicine Authority, said that we would be able to follow each packaging carefully at all stages while reducing errors and fraud and enhancing the capacity of the State to regulate the drug market with unprecedented efficiency.
The project aimed to build a national system to track pharmaceuticals from production or import to the patient, in accordance with WHO global standards, to promote transparency, combat fraud and ensure the availability and safety of medicines.
The Chief of the Medicine Authority noted that the National Tracking System records the course of the medicine at all stages, with the medicine package containing four serial numbers: the medicine number, the operating number, the unique serial number of each packaging, and the date of validity, and these data are verified at each stage to ensure that the medication is not forged or used.

وأشار، أيضًا إلى حرص الهيئة على تعزيز التعاون الدولي وتوظيف الذكاء الاصطناعي في المنظومة الدوائية، بالتعاون مع مؤسسة “جيتس” لدعم الابتكار، كما أعلن اجتياز الهيئة بنجاح المراجعة الدورية للاعتماد وفقًا لمواصفة ISO 9001:2015، تعزيزًا لكفاءة المنظومة الرقابية والأداء المؤسسي.
