Government to open East Nile Monorail in November 2025

The Egyptian government is preparing to open the Monorail line east of the Nile in November 2025, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, along with the opening of the first line of the electric high-speed train (Sokhna - Alexandria - El Alamein - Matrouh) in June 2026.

On Monday, President Sisi met with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel to follow up on the development of Egyptian ports and various transport and industry projects.

Monorail East/West Nile

The meeting dealt with the developments of the operational position of transport projects, especially the railway system, where they presented the latest developments in the construction of the Monorail East/West Nile and related passenger terminals, and ways to ensure integration between the Monorail East Cairo and the bus, in addition to the developments of upgrading the efficiency of roads adjacent to the Monorail route.

In the same context, they reviewed the implementation of the first line of the electric high-speed train (Sokhna – Alexandria – El Alamein – Matrouh), along with the high-speed train between the city of peace and the tenth of Ramadan and the new administrative capital, to be completed in March 2026.

Ports

The President was briefed on the latest developments in the construction, modernization, operation and management of ports at the level of the Republic, including the general plan of the Jarjub Seaport and Jarjub Special Economic Zone, the general plan of Abu Qir Seaport and the liquid casting station for the storage and mixing of petroleum products in East Port Said.

Management, operation, marketing and maintenance of the Galala Marina, and management, operation and redelivery of the Bernice seaport superstructure. The expected returns from these projects and the new job opportunities they will create were also reviewed.

He also directed the work to attract the largest shipping lines and global operators, in support of the state's goals in industrial development and comprehensive economic development.
