Minister of Planning: Economic growth continues despite Suez Canal challenges

Reflecting the importance of community dialogue on vital issues, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, held an extensive meeting with a number of newspaper editors and media representatives as part of the community dialogue activities on the "National Economic Development Narrative". The event was sponsored by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly as part of a program that seeks to boost economic policies and generate more jobs.

Media as a Strategic Partner

During the session, the minister stressed the importance of the role of the media in spreading awareness of economic policies. She pointed to the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to increase production and stimulate the industrial sector, which contributes to reforming the economy and enhancing the participation of the private sector. Information is a means of successfully establishing the concept of sustainable development among the public.

National narrative: an integrated framework

Efforts to prepare a national narrative aimed at integrating Egypt’s Vision 2030 with the government’s program were discussed. This narrative seeks to link sectoral policies to macroeconomics, focusing on foreign direct investment, industrial growth and entrepreneurship.

Focus on critical sectors

The Minister stressed that the narrative aims to improve performance in high value-added sectors such as non-petroleum manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and information technology. These sectors are key pillars for boosting economic growth and creating more jobs.

Pillars of Economic Stability

The national narrative included several key pillars, including economic stability through sound fiscal and monetary policies, empowering the private sector, and redefining the role of the state in the economy. The importance of shifting towards tradable sectors was also emphasized.

The role of finance in development

Al-Mashat pointed out that Egypt has become a magnet for concessional financing, with total funding since 2020 of about $16 billion, with strategic partnerships with the European Union to support investment.

The national narrative for economic development looks forward to the emphasis on social protection and human development strategies, which will build on the outputs of the 2025 World Conference on Population, Health and Development, with a focus on sustained growth and expansion of the investment and employment base.
