Ahli Bank Contributes EGP 60 Million to ECOWAS Unit through Zakat Emergency Committee

The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) announced a new contribution of EGP 60 million through the Emergency Zakat Committee of Qasr Al Aini to cover the operating needs of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxidation Unit (ECMO) during 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, in addition to providing the unit with three modern devices at the Faculty of Medicine – Qasr Al Aini.

Mohamed El-Atraby, CEO of NBE, said that this new donation complements the pivotal role played by NBE as a key partner of Egyptian universities through its support for the projects of the Qasr El-Aini Emergency Zakat Committee, which is directed entirely towards the development of Qasr El-Aini Hospitals – Cairo University, thus contributing to the modernization of the healthcare system infrastructure and consolidating Egypt’s position as a leading center in the field of critical cases.

He stressed the bank's belief in the importance of supporting the health and education sectors as one of the most important development axes of the state, where the contributions of the National Bank of Egypt come from its strategy for social responsibility aimed at supporting vital sectors.

Marketing and Community Development

Dina Abu Talib, Head of Marketing and Community Development at NBE, added that the bank has already contributed EGP 80 million through the Qasr Al Aini Emergency Zakat Committee to develop and equip ECMO units, operating rooms, intensive care and catheterization, in a move that is considered a prominent medical icon that contributes to the development of critical case specialization and raising the efficiency of health care services.

Dr. Hisham Amer, Chairman of the Emergency Zakat Committee, expressed his pride in the continued support of the National Bank of Egypt for Qasr Al-Aini Hospitals through the Committee, praising this partnership, which reflects a genuine national commitment to support the health sector, stressing that this donation represents a qualitative addition that contributes to raising the efficiency of medical services provided to patients, and enhancing the role of Qasr Al-Aini as a leading medical institution that serves the community at large and alleviates the suffering of patients.

He pointed out that this support has contributed significantly to the activation of the latest technology of ECMO, which allows to perform the function of the heart or lungs or both temporarily for periods ranging from hours to months, giving medical teams a real opportunity to save critical cases, where the ECMO unit is equipped with the palace of the eye to be the first of its kind at the level of intensive care contains a hybrid operating room, allowing the implementation of surgical or intervention procedures around the clock without the need to transport patients.

He added that with the support of the National Bank of Egypt through its committee, a clear success was achieved during the first year of operation by receiving 114 patients with global healing rates, which reflects the quality of the available medical capabilities and the efficiency of the staff.
