
Under the direction of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, an official visit to the Cypriot capital Nicosia was launched under the chairmanship of Ambassador Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
They were received by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, where they discussed several topics related to strengthening regional cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and gas. The importance of Connecting Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian infrastructure.
During the talks, the Foreign Minister expressed the importance of developing relations in the energy sector, stressing the commitments of the two sides to implement the agreements signed in Cairo earlier this year, which aim to integrate Cypriot gas fields into the Egyptian energy system, in addition to the electricity interconnection project.
Engineer Karim Badawi held a joint press conference with Cypriot Energy Minister George Papanastasio, where he reviewed the progress made in connecting Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian infrastructure and the importance of accelerating operations.
Strategic Project
Badawi highlighted that the talks focused on the implementation of the strategic project to link the Cypriot Cronus field to the Egyptian regime, pointing out the remarkable progress in this context. He revealed that the start of receiving gas in Egypt and re-exporting it to European markets through liquefaction complexes starting from 2027, according to the agreements reached.
Badawi said the project strengthens Egypt’s position as a regional energy trading hub and paves the way for Cyprus to become a major gas exporter in Europe.
Bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus are of great interest to the political leaderships of both countries, which serves the interests of the two peoples and enhances energy security regionally and internationally.
In conclusion, Badawi stressed the depth of relations between Egypt and Cyprus, expressing his appreciation for the fruitful partnership and joint efforts to develop cooperation in the future.
