The X platform, formerly known as Twitter, has announced the launch of the new encrypted messaging feature "XChat", to be available to a wide range of users, including those who do not subscribe to the service "X Premium". This step represents a significant step towards enhancing the privacy of digital communication.
A new concept of secure messaging
The XChat feature appeared last May in a beta version, and aims to separate encrypted messages from traditional direct messages. Using this technology, messages are comprehensively encrypted, ensuring data security and confidentiality when exchanged. The feature also supports multimedia uploading, organizing group conversations, along with options to determine the status of message reading.
Future benefits under development
X is improving this feature, as reports indicate that the "auto-disappear" option for messages is under development, further enhancing security. Before XChat is activated, users must set up a four-digit code, similar to that found in encrypted applications such as Signal, which prevents communication with users without activating the feature.
How to get to XChat
For computer users, the new service is available under the Messages tab by selecting "Chat" in the Message Requests section. As for the mobile app, the feature appears in the main navigation bar at the top of the "Communities" section.
Balance between privacy and comfort
It’s worth noting that XChat doesn’t completely eliminate traditional direct messages, but rather puts them in a "unencrypted" tab. This approach shows how keen X is to combine ease of use with maintaining user privacy.
In response to previous criticisms
The initiative is part of X’s efforts to improve user experience and boost privacy amid criticism it has received since Elon Musk took over. As users become increasingly interested in digital security, this feature comes to meet their needs.
Strong competition in the messaging market
With the launch of XChat, X is seeking to compete with leading encrypted applications such as WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram, which have become major options for millions of users. Additional features such as group chats and message stabilization are expected to attract new users, making the X brand one of the prominent options in the world of encrypted messaging.
In doing so, X puts itself in a strong competitive position, to meet the growing needs of users in the world of message storage and secure communication mechanisms.
