Egypt strengthens industrial capacity by localizing desalination plant components

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, met with one of the prominent leaders in the field of water technology, Qingyun Kong, President of Jiangsu Fenghai Co., Ltd., during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin, China, in the presence of Ambassador Khaled Nazmi, Ambassador of Egypt to China.

At the beginning of the meeting, the prime minister highlighted the importance of enhancing the state’s efforts in the field of seawater desalination, noting the government’s intention to work closely with international companies, especially Chinese, to localize technology for desalination plant components. The goal is to produce about 10 million cubic meters per day of desalinated water in the next five to six years.

Madbouly said the recommendation to cooperate with Jiangsu Fenghai came from Chinese President Xi Jinping during his meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, reflecting the level of partnership between the two countries.

For its part, Qingyun Kong stressed its keenness to strengthen cooperation with Egypt, explaining its company's readiness to provide its expertise in the field of desalination technology, in addition to presenting a model that produces 10,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day using renewable energy, with the possibility of increasing production to suit the needs of the Egyptian market.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister proposed to strengthen the means of communication between the concerned Egyptian authorities and officials of the company, to develop cooperation mechanisms in this vital sector, which is one of the key elements to achieve sustainable development in Egypt.
