Google tightens security measures: prevent the installation of external applications on Android to protect user data

[ad 1]

Google announced a major security update for the system. AndroidIt requires app developers to pre-authenticate before allowing system users to upload their apps via Sideloading technology that allows apps to be downloaded from unofficial sources.

This decision came after studies showed a high rate of malware in applications downloaded from external sources, as those applications carry more than 50 times the risk compared to what is found in the Google Play Store. This step aims to enhance the security of users and protect them from attackers who seek to exploit them through malicious software.

According to Google, the applications will not be installed on Android-enabled devices until the developer registers with Google, which will review his identity. Meanwhile, Google is developing a new platform called Android Developer Console to help speed up the verification process and registration of application-specific package names.

Google likens this process to "airport identity checks," explaining that verification focuses only on confirming the identity of developers and does not interfere with examining the content of applications per se. She also stressed that this action will not restrict the freedom of developers to publish their applications on other platforms.

This requirement will be introduced gradually in late 2026, specifically in Brazil, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, with the update to be extended to other countries later, the company announced.
